Biography: Fran Stetina began his interest in photography while serving as an officer in The U. S. Coast Guard , photographing his girl friend and soon to be wife Mary.
He has been married to Mary for 49 years. They have three sons, Francis ,Christopher and James ;and one grand daughter Rachael. Fran’s formal photography studies began at the Corcoran school of Art in Washington ,D. C.
Since then he has participated in many international workshops, most notably with the famous French Photographer Lucien Clergue and Landscape artist John Sexton. He participated with Sexton in a three week workshop in china in 1986, and since then he has been back to china 6 times; his last visit being in 2004.
Fran has taught and organized his own workshops “ Photo treks “ for 10 years.
Fran’s first Gallery sales were to the prestigious Merrill chase Galleries in Chicago ,Illinois. He has participated in many group and one person exhibitions and has been the recipient of Maryland awards and recognition ; and together with his friend and colleague David Orbock were the first Maryland artists to have an exhibition in Marylands sister state Hefie , Anhui Province China in 1992.
Fran has traveled extensively around the world in search of the interesting image. He has published a book of Poetic essays “A Portrait of Anna” including 7 poems and 80 Black & White images. In 1995 he became interested in Panoramic Photography. He joined the International association of Panoramic Photographers and has been producing 360 º fine Art Panoramas for over 12 years. Fran has participated in the IAPP bi - annual conventions , their many workshops and has been a secretary , treasurer , and past President . In 2005 he won the Fuji film Masterpiece award for his abstract Image “ a Gas P{lant in Seattle Washington” and in 2006 He won the Kodak Special achievement award for His Image of the Dale Chihuly Exhibition in the Bronx Botanical Gardens.
