This is one of the biggest chuches in Venice. Inside are some important works of art like two paintings from Tizian, who is also buried here. The construction of the church started in the middle of the 13th century. But it needed many changes and was finished around 1450.
Venice is a unique island city. Spread on 118 islands, it is the faszinating heritage of a very rich history. Since 1987 Venice is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But due to the unlimited mass tourism, the world heritage status is endangered. Especially the big cruise ships cause many problems with driving into the lagoon and flooding the city with tourists who don’t spend money for things which are free on board.

At its eastern end the Rio del Magazen flows into the Rio del Malcanton. Here is the bridge Ponte Marcello. At its north side the sun illuminates the Gothic Palazzo Marcello ai Tolentini. Built in the 15th century, it serves as a hotel today. The next builing on the left side is the white Palazzo Minotto ai Tolentini from the 17th century.

The old tramway of Istanbul connects the Taksim square with the historic underground Tünel. With slow speed it drives down the big pedestrian area of the Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Street) in the Beyoglu quarter. Here it passes many stores, bars and restaurants in historic Art Nouveau buildings. As single track there is a passing point in the middle of the lane. Children have lots of fun jumping on and off the moving tramway.

San Gimignano is one of the most remarkable villages in Tuscany. There are still 15 of originally 72 medieval towers, representing the power of the families. The Torre Grossa is the highest of these towers and reaches 54 meters. It was built in 1311. The wealth of the village came from a trade road which connected Rome with northern Italy and the cultivation of saffron. Since 1990 San Gimignano is recognized as a UNESCO cultural heritage.

The small citiy of Enez is directly at the Turkish-Greek border. At ancient Greek times it was called Ainos and thanks to its habour it had become a rich town. Later Enez belonged to Pergamon and was inherited by the Romans. Justinian, emperor of the East-Roman empire, built a fortress. Later, under Niccolo Gattilusio Enez belonged a rich Genuese family, which had been accepted by the Emperor in Byzanz in 1379. After the fall of Konstantinopel 1453 Enez had been occupied by Sultan Mehmed II. personally. Today its a small and calm town with a little local tourism. Nearby are flat bays and salt ponds where you can see many different kinds of birds. And sometimes there are even Flamingos.

Surrounded by gothic and baroque houses, thousands of tourists visit this square every day. The city hall in the s/w corner gets the first sunbeams. The “Saint Nicholas Church” is partly scaffolded and behind the east side of the square the two towers of the gothic “Church of Our Lady before Teyn” rise 80m high.
